I accidentally filled approximately 25% of the tank of my friends diesel car with gasoline( the rest of the tank was full of diesel) and drove for 5 min at most before realizing it and shutting it off. So my quistion is how much damage could i be looking at here? Its a Vw polo and a rather new model 2008 i think

Two choices, empty the tank now and take the $50 loss. Top it off and hold topping it off at every 1/2 tank for approximately 500 miles. Then put a 5 gallon jerry can in a dependable place , fill it with diesel, run it till it's out, put the 5 gallons in, stop at next gas station and prime it off with diesel. I needed to run a tractor as soon as in an extraordinarily remote field, it ran out of diesel and i used some siphoned petrol/gasoline from my truck. I used to be advised about that topping off trick by a marine mechanic. Additionally wanna do the Plugs and Filters after about one thousand miles, to get it again in order, damage is completed, it's not that dangerous.
You'll have to completely flush the fuel system, but other than that no real damage was done, in the heavy equipment business I've seen more gas put into Diesels than VW has cars, its when you put Diesel into a Gasoline engine that you have the nightmares.
I am not familiar with the diesel engine in your Polo. Here is what happens on the newer common rail TDI in the USA.
We have to replace all the parts that fuel touches. The only parts that do not get replaced are the fuel tank and the pump in the tank(they have 3 fuel pumps)
The repair can cost up to about $7000.
Get it to the dealer and have them advise you. Good luck
Putting gasoline in a diesel car is like putting metal in a microwave. At the minimum, you will have to flush the fuel system. Worst case scenario, you'll be paying for a new set of injectors, and various other fuel system components.
OUCH ask the pro's call a vw dealer. Those new injection systems can be forgiving, and then again some are not so. Either way it's at least a complete fuel system flush.
