One night I was playing Scrabble with my father. It was his turn, but he seemed to not remember the last word he played. He kept asking "who played this word" over and over...even though i answered about 4 times. About 5 minutes later, he couldn't recall a phone call he made a few hours ago. After talking with my mother for about 10 minutes, he couldn't remember that we were even playing scrabble. A few more minutes of questioning and we discovered he couldn't even remember things from this morning, and soon a week. We can't even figure out what he did today because he can't remember himself. It seems like the more time passes the less he remembers. My father is 60. I'm assuming it is Alzheimer's but i'm not too sure. He was fine right before we played scrabble. Can anyone please give me advice on what to do? Will this be permanent or temporary? What should be my next step?

Your father needs to be seen by a Medical Doctor as soon as possible. Like the Emergency Room in my opinion. It sounds like he could be have what are called TIA's which are mini strokes. He needs to be evaluated. If you just let this go and not have him checked out by a doctor, yeah, this could be permanent, it could be deadly. It's too rapid of onset to be Alzheimer's. Please take him to the hospital for a check up immediately. Hopefully it will be nothing but if it is something, he stands a better chance of recovery the earlier it is treated.
