I am trying to get into college classes, and I am twenty years old.
I can not use my parents information, and I was told that I cannot apply with my tax papers alone because of my age. My grandparents do not file taxes anymore.
I live with my girlfriend (she is 38 years old). I am unsure about what steps to take to go about getting a grant of any kind.
Can someone please help me. This is a very important step for my future.

Yes, at age 20, your parents' financial information is taken into account when you apply for financial aide. If there's a very good reason that you can't provide your parents' information, then you'll need to talk to the financial aide office of the school you'd like to attend. Unless you're legally emancipated from your parents, most schools will ask for parent into up to age 27 or so. You will likely have a hard time getting grants without providing your parents' info, but you would probably still be able to take out loans.
The fact that you live with your older girlfriend bears no relevance to the process of getting aide.
