I just got rear ended by another driver. She is at fault. Now I was hoping to get a check from her insurance company for the cost of damage on my vehicle. However, when I spoke to her insurance company, the woman said something about having one of their 'appraisers' come out to look at the damage and then determine where I want to get my repairs done.
My question is, will they send me a check for the cost or will they directly pay the shop?
I just want to know for my own knowledge.
also is it better to have my insurance company take care of it or mine?
the driver had Travelers insurance and I have progressive.

Since she is at fault, her insurance company will pay for the damage.
Some insurance companies will give you a check to pay for damages, some will only pay the shop.
You can ask the adjuster when he comes to look at the damage if you would prefer a check.
It just depends on the insurance company internal operating policies.
I only had an accident once. The other person's insurance adjuster came to my house, looked at the car and told me to get it fixed and they would pay for it. The person who caused the accident's insurance company will pay for it. The two insurance companies work together.
they will directly pay the shop .
