I am going with my family on a 4-day Royal Caribbean cruise in March. We are mainly going on this one because it has mini golf and skating for the kids. What discounts do you get for bringing someone over 55 on a cruise? What to expect? Is Royal Caribbean the best cruise line or is Carnival or Disney better?

I have been on many cruises and many have been on RC ships. The cruise line gives a discount to persons over 55 only on certain cruises and the discount may be $50 to $100. You can get discounts by looking on the cruise line web sites for deals and specials. Both Carnival and RC have link to their discounted cruises right on their home page. If you want the best price book very early (like 9 to 12 months or more) and go when the specials are offered.
I have never been on Disney or Carnival, among the 4 cruise lines I have sailed with. But I know that RC is a better cruise line than Carnival and it is more family oriented and has more on ship activities, like the roller blading and ice skating you mentioned, plus the rock climbing wall, an ice show, basketball court and multiple pools and hot tubs.
So my recommendation si to do a RC cruise and my bet is you will not be disappointed one bit.
I prefer Carnival over RCL. You can get a discount with either line, and if you are a veteran there is even a better discount. I have taken my 12 year old on 2 Carnival trips and she has loved both and now our whole family is hooked on cruising. I found Carnival a warmer, better served ship than I have on RCL but its so subjective you would have to make your own choices. I havent been on Disney but if you have smaller kids I'm sure they will get a kick out of the characters on the boar. Have Fun
My husband has been on a Royal Caribbean cruise & Carnival. He said RC is better, hands down. We are planning another cruise this Oct. and will be on RB. He said the whole cruise ship was just nicer, the food was better, etc.
You may get a slight discount on an inside cabin for someone over55. You'll have a blast doing whatever it is that you are doing. Although I've only been on RC I have had a blash. I went on a cruise in Feb. 2007 and had a blast and am going on another in the Summer.
Which cruise line is "better" is a very subjective thing. But to get opinions - and advice re what to expect - go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards" at the top of the page, then go to the boards that you're interested in. You might also want to check out "Reviews", where you'll find both professional and past-passenger reviews on specific ships.
Have a great time!
Much depends on where you are travelling. Some are more "mature" and others are more fun. Most have a kids program. We went to the Panama Canal nad South America but most passengers were over 40. The caribbean islands may have more of a party trend. Talk to your travel agent.
