I'm not a photography person, but i think it would be fun to have a cute little camera. (not a typical digital camera, something that looks vintage or different.)
Kodak Retina 1a - it's small, very well built, the folding lens design is very different. It takes standard 35mm film and has a lever-wind action. The lens is very good. I love using mine.
But.. it's zone focus and manual exposure without an exposure meter. It's not something you can pick-up and use without learning a bit about photography.
For something a bit more modern (autoexposure, but still zone focus) you could try one of the Agfa Optima red button cameras. You need to manually set the rough distance to the subject (very easy, it doesn't have to be that accurate), manually wind the film on, the camera will work out the settings for you when you push the shutter. A better choice for someone that isn't a photographer but wants to have a little bit of manual input (setting the focus).
Try the q camera! It is pocket size, waterproof for up to two ft. Of water, and best of all it has this amazing look with 9 different colors you should try visiting theqcamera.com for more info :))
Well if you look online on Urban Outfitters, then you will see abunch of cute little cameras, i've got to warn you though some are pretty pricy, but they're worth it.

Both these cameras are very compact.
