When I go to access System Restore on my Packard Bell Laptop I get a message saying "System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. The Volume Shadow Copy service used by System Restore is not working. For more information view the event log. (0x81000202).
Then it says "To turn System Restore on and adjust other settings, open System Protection" and when I click the link it brings up "System Properties" with the necessary buttons blanked out so cannot click on them..
The reason for needing System Restore is that my built in webcam sometimes won't work.. and ManyCam won't recognise it when it does. It worked ok last Sunday so want to do a System Restore to that point, unless someone has a good idea.
Thanks for your replies.
Alf
Update:Thank you both... I tried Sly Old Mole's suggestion.. and put Services in the search box and ran as administrator, but it could not find and ran as administrator but did not find any mention of Volume Shadow Copy in any list.. and when I opened Services there was nothing showing in there....
I also tried to find a good free System Restore in Google but none seemed to fit the bill... I will keep trying..
Thank you for your suggestions...

This is an MS article for running SFC /SCANNOW in Vista (and Windows 7)

Might also be useful to run a disk check?
In an Admin CMD window type
chkdsk /f
and press enter. It will probably tell you that drive C is in use and offer to run on next reboot. Just tell it yes and restart the computer
