How do your companies find your housing? I'm starting up nurse housing in my community. I call the nurse staffing companys send my info and they say thats all they need. But isn't there 2000 other places doing the same thing? I just want to know how they decide which apartment community to use and how I can get them to use mine. Thanks in advance and keep up the hard work!

I know that some consideration is given to the proximity to the health care facility, price, and size of housing. Generally travelers are alone, they don't need huge places nor do the companies need to pay for 3 bedroom apartments. Make them close to the places they will work, clean, and affordable. My advice is to send some type of brochure and pamphlet to traveling companies emphasizing their cost, location, and other features.
I would agree with the other answers that you should start obtaining your work experience as an RN after obtaining your ADN. I would recommend that you immediately continue your education for your BSN. With MAGNET recognition becoming widely popular in hospitals, you will find that ADN positions will be more and more difficult to obtain. You will need a minimum of 2 years experience as a brand new nurse in your chosen specialty before you should begin looking for a travel nurse position. As far as a nursing specialty; this is a very individual choice. You will have an opportunity to Explore your options while in nursing school. I would recommend that you keep a notebook as you are performing your various clinicals and jot down what you feel are pros and cons of each area you are exposed to in the hospital. Once you are out of nursing school, take a look at the notes and add/delete from them and analyze them to assist you to decide which specialty you want to pursue. Remember that you can always change your specialty at any time.
