Weight loss question...?

I need to lose weight. I just graduated college and I put on about 60 lbs over the past 4 years and I want to take it back off. I have a gym membership and I am cooking healthier food. I am currently using the elliptical for cardio and using the weight machines to tone muscle. My question is how long should I do the elliptical for optimal results? I usually go work-out Monday through Friday. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
