So I've been really stressed out lately and I read in a book that by accomplishing things that are easy but take a long time can help you to destress a little and make you feel better. Like, losing weight..it's easy to do but it takes a while. Anyway, I don't want to lose weight but I want to become more flexible and be able to do a split. I used to be in gymnastics when I was little but now I'm not (I'm 17 now) and I'm no longer flexible. What are some good ways to stretch out my legs and how often/for how long should I do it?
I only made being able to do a split my goal because I figured if I acomplish that my "becoming more flexible goal" worked and plus...it's good for your back and muscles and whatnot to be decently flexible.
Anyway, thanks for the tips!
Update:Oh, and how many months/weeks of stretching should it take me to be able to do a split?

According to a book I read, if you practice every day, it will take you about 3 months to be able to do the splits. Not sure about the exact exercises you should do, but probably, you just have to do them as far as you can, stay in this position for a few minutes every day, and gradually increase the angle. Do not overdo it, though - if it's actually painful, I think you're doing it too hard. Just get that stretchy feeling.
