The Bible is clear on the treatment of women -- no matter where one lives or their form of worship. God created Eve to be a complement a helper to her husband Adam Genesis 2:18 "then Jehovah God said: It is not good for the man to continue to be alone. I am going to make helper for him, as a complement of him." Jesus also treated women with respect and consideration.
It is foolish to put say always as you have done. Certainly in the Christian religion you have Mary who is revered, and in Judaism, their are several women who are revered - Ruth, Rebecca, Sarah, etc. In Islam, women are held to be second class citizens, as Muhammad treated women that way.
The bible itself rrcognised men as not oy beinv leaders, but the leaders in all thi.gs planned that required followers.as for my thojgbts, we as men could do a bit better in love and life following some of our women...

Maybe because religion was made by people, and those were their views when religion was made.
(Then again...maybe they weren't made by people) Some examples:
Islam (I don't even have to explain)
Christianity- women must submit to husbands, almost no female religious figures
Judaism- Often men only congregations
Most religions have something or another that portrays women as less than men.

Always? Besides Islam give us some examples.
I have known Christian fundamentalists who feel this way, and I cannot explain it.
However, I believe that it is not all religion, rather all religious fundamentalists.
Because religion was invented by men, not women.
edit: Conservatives obviously don't know the bible!
Other than Islam I'm not sure if that is a true statement.
Not ALL religions!! NOT the ones EUROPE EXTINGUISHED with INQUISITIONS!!
