If you are upgrading from a 32 bit system to a 32 bit, or a 64 bit to a 64 bit system you will not need to back up your files. The upgrade will ask you to delete two of the Vista programs and after you delete them, shut off and restart your computer. If you are upgrading to a 64 bit system from a 32 bit system, you will need to back up all your files, it does a clean sweep. I really like the Windows 7 format better than the Vista, it runs a far better and less jumbled background than Vista. The upgrade is simple and quick (about 30-40 minutes). The upgrade will not touch your iTunes if you are staying with the same bit system.

No an UPGRADE to Windows 7 will not delete your data, but if you are just installing WINDOWS 7 not UPGRADING your data will be compromised unless you partition your disk.

if you choose the upgrade option it will take longer but it will keep all your settings, programs and files. if you choose custom install you will have to reinstall everything and pull all your files back the installer will put all your old files in a file on drive C called windows.old

back up all your files then use the clear disk and then windows 7
