I have just brought a Xsara Picasso 1.8 petrol 03 and when i first got it put £40 of petrol, when i started that car the fuel indicator moved about 3 bars. Since then using the car the indicator has gone down as expected and today i put it another £25 worth of petrol. When i started the car the indicator had not changed at all. Any ideas why or is it because i put in to little petrol to change the fuel indicator?
Update:I did try and find a diesel but ran out of in time, needed to find a car before my wife gave birth to twins. We got 1.8 exclusive 6 months tax 12 months mot, no faults until now and had it check over by local garage and they say its in very good nick, 64000k miles.

Sounds like a sticky sender unit.Until you know for sure, zero the trip mileage when you fill & drive for 100 miles or so & refill. This will give you an idea of MPG
The sender sticks from time to time that's all.
It's a Citroen live with it.
Citroens........... sometimes sick never fatal.lol
I've been running them for 25 years and wouldn't have anything else.
My fuel pump has failed twice in 60000 miles on my Diesel Picasso so I've seen the dender unit and it's prone to sticking. While I had it off last time I bent the arm slightly and it has been OK since.
ps. You should have got the diesel far better on fuel and quicker. Only £125 road tax as well.
probably the sender unit in tank
