A practical math question?
I just saw a commercial about slow-running computers. The ad claims to increase computer speeds by up to 100 to 150%. I believe that if your computer speed is increased by 100% then it's operations would be instantaneous. This means that a computer speed cannot be improved by over 100%. There are no disclaimers stating anything about "average computer speeds" or anything along those lines. So am I right and the commercial is wrong or am I looking at this the wrong way?

The important word here is "increase". If you increase the speed of something by 100% that means you double the speed. If your car is going 40 mph and you increase the speed by 100% you will be going 40+40 mph = 80 mph.
BUT. don't believe the adds about increasing the speed of your computer by 100 to 150%. While it is possible to increase the speed of your computer by increasing the clock rate the provides the timing signals this is very tricky and risky to do. I had a friend to tried this. The computer got too hot and burst into flames. He was lucky he didn't burn his house down.
Its in the wording. The claim is that If you computer speeds are BELOW their maximum rated speeds then these low speeds can be increased by 100 to 150&
So if your computer is running at 30 rated speed the claim is that this could increased by 100% to 60& or by 150% to 75%.
If you double the speed, you are increasing it 100% and the increased speed is 200% of the original.
i'm not solid at user-friendly addition and subtraction in my head the two. don't sense too undesirable. it must be that the mathematics equipment the place you went to college did not spend adequate time coaching the fundamentals. that's between the themes I had in my college equipment.
