I need to change my car next year and I like the look of the 159. I do alot of mileage and need reliability. I know Alfas used to be poor on this front but I've heard that the new models are alot better. Anyone able to confirm this?

The 1.9 turbo diesel engine version is the one to go for. I would absolutely love an Alfa 159.
It is such a good engine that Vauxhall, Saab, Suzuki borrowed it to use it in their models. Reliability is good, those diesel Alfas can rack up the miles just as good as any(just look at auto trader), except you'll be travelling fast in style! I would be prepared for the odd gremlin, but nothing serious.
Someone in my familly had an Alfa GT 1.9 Turbo Diesel which was great.
Alfa Romeo 159 Reliability
Haven't heard any horror stories about the 159 yet, although I'm sure the know-it-all bar-room experts will be along to have their say soon!
Modern Alfas are likely to be as reliable as any other car, with the slight caveat that some Alfa dealers aren't quite the full shilling, but the situation is improving.
I've got a 156 and it's been totally reliable in the 3 years I've had it, and it's a fabulous car to own, drive, look at etc. I've heard of plenty of people with 156s and 147s that have done well over 100k miles with no major mishaps.
as an owner of a 156 i would say buy, the newer models are much better & far more reliable now, i live in the uk & one of the bad points was that when something went wrong you had to wait for weeks for the parts but not any more. i have had my alfa for 7 years & its still going strong, no silly little glitches or major breakdowns & it does high mileage & some minor off road (farmer). its so sweet i cant even think about changing it & i have been driving for 21 years & used to change cars when mot was due
These people are speaking utter nonsense. I have had nothing but sheer pleasure from my Alfa 159.... It's the best car I have ever owned! Great value for money...
Alfa and reliability are 2 words that do not exist in the same language.Crap electrics and even crapper engine cooling systems avoid them like the pox. They are about as reliable as a rover k series but about 3 times the price.Look good up on a two post ramp with the donkey out on the floor though!
I'd happily stake my reputation on them being an absolute disaster.
