I'm looking at laptops to buy, and I'm pretty much set on the HP dv5t. One component that I'm debating, however, is the optical drive. The choices basically are:
A SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
-or-
A Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
Since the Blu-Ray drive is significantly more expensive, I have a question. Would it be possible to go with the non-Blu-Ray drive and then possibly upgrade to a Blu-Ray drive later on if the need arises? Would I have a problem finding a Blu-Ray drive to fit that notebook?

It shouldn't be an issue...laptops are being designed to make upgrading easy for the consumer. Have you considered an external Blu-Ray (with a USB connection)? Just plug and play!
Any major Laptop Manufacture with at least a dual core AMD Turion processor. Do Laptops support direct x 10? Probably only 9. Yes also 2 gigs of ram. And on a laptop only the ram and hdd are can be upgraded.
The act of removing and installing an optical drive on an HP is fairly simple. However, the problem you are going to face would be to find a drive that fits your notebook at a later date.
Drives are standard all around and so are the sockets.
The only thing you have to swap out is the bezel.
The only thing you MAY have to swap out is a back plate if the original drive had one. Manufacturers like to trick people into buying only THEIR drives so they attach a backplate with a different socket OVER the standard socket. Remove the backplate from the old drive and attach it to the new one...
I had to do it to a sony laptop i was servicing...
Yes you can upgrade later but is not a good idea.
1/cost
2/better to get from HP, you might need the faceplate if you by 3rd party and they might not be compatible.
