You will have been given a core reading list for your essay, look at it and then sign out those books from the library and do your research yourself so you know how to fully understand your subject matter and how to become competant at research methods.

This sounds like you are doing a formal report of some kind, and this forum is not the proper place to ask such a question. For one, you cannot document anything as "source material". Do your own research- I suggest stopping at a library. Librarians are great at showing people how to do proper research for in- depth topics like the one you are asking.
