I want to get into cross country track in my school. I ride my bike often and have pretty good endurance. How can I improve?...Any special foods, exercises, vitamins or anything that will help?
There are many things to do to get into shape for XC i would advise you to start running 1-3 miles at about a 6 minute pace (gradually increase the mileage) if you do this you will be on time to run a pretty good time. Also make sure you run a warm up and stretch after it as well as after you run. I would advise eating a banana and drinking a protein shake after each run to build the muscles. Also make sure you get into the weight room a few days a week to do leg work outs.
if you ride your bike you will definitly be okay. I run about ten miles a week and im on the Varsity team and im only in the seventh grade. You should eat pasta and rice and drink alot of water the day before you try out or have a meet. Stretch ALOT, the more flexible you are the less of a chance you will pull a muscle. I just recently pulled a muscle in my groin [remember this statment] and i asked my coach of i should come to practice that day. She said do you want to run for today, or the rest of your life? It depends how old you are on the vitiman thing. I take vitimans pretty much for fun because im 12, you know the Flinstones kind, lol. If you are old enough you should probaly take 1 A Day Mens/Womens, you have heard of those right?
Try running in a local park for 7-10 mins every night. That will keep you fit and eventually you will get better and better. Extra practice is always good. If you begin to feel it's to easy, run a little bit longer like add on an extra minute every week.
dude practice every day. start with two miles and slowly increase to 4 Drink lots of water! very important. Riding a bike and running is very different. Running puts 4 times your weight on your legs with every step so take it easy. Carbs are very good lots of veggies and fruits. I run CC at my school. you will love it! Plus it is a co-ed sport yes! score!
Start slow and build up your running muscles and pace. Hills, sprints, and long slow runs will all help. Nutrition will enable you to recover and should never be overlooked. Quality carbs, protein and a multi-vitamin are essential. If you can give me your numbers,ie how far, fast, often you run I can be more specific.
