I predicted Mayweather would stop Hatton in the 10th last night and he did just that. Now that it's over who will fans demand he fight next? I personally would like to see him fight Miguel Cotto. Cotto does not possess the tools to beat him. I see it going similar to the fight last night but more interesting with Cotto's punching power keeping him in the fight until late when Floyd again scores an impressive stoppage. Your thoughts fellow boxing fans?

I mean I’m still not impressed, Floyd did not prove anything to me, he fought Ricky Hatton??? Any of the current welterweight champs (Cintron, P Williams or Cotto) would knock him out. I don’t know if everyone either got caught up in the hype or they’re not really fans of boxing and just follow the big names. Ricky Hatton fought 1 time as a welterweight before this, got his bell rung several times and almost finished in the 12th round by Luis Collazo, a natural welter weight who is very slick but has very, very little power. Hatton admitted himself that he honestly was hurt several times and that Welterweight was not the division for him and moved back down to 140 (Jr Welter) immediately. Floyd knew this, trust that, this was a safe fight for him; to make it extra safe he made Hatton move up to 147. I like Ricky Hatton as a person honest and humble but as a fighter he has yet to impress, sure he applies pressure, but he cant put a descent combo together, speed isn’t all that and neither is his chin, sure he might have put away a bunch of Manchester cab drivers his power never looked impressive in the states. Can you compare him to Cotto…NO…Not at all the only thing they might have in common is they apply pressure, but Cotto is much more effective crisp and powerful combinations not a hundred clinches a round (straight hug fest) that Hatton brings to the table. In order to be the best you have to fight the best in their prime, not out of their prime hall of famers or over rated undersized Jr. Welterweights. Refusing to fight any of the top guys in their prime, and although I am not a Mayweather fan his skill undeniable, but it’s like Kobe playing in the WNBA. How can anyone appreciate that is beyond me? Floyd is like a smaller version of Roy Jones Jr. once he gets knocked out and exploited the boxing world won’t miss him, probably better off without him.
Moneywise: De La Hoya.. enough said. De La Hoya is a very smart fighter (most of the time, he was stupid in his last fight vs Mayweather). Mayweather will get probably at least 15 million just for agreeing to fight, plus some of the profts from people who order the event. De La Hoya might make a little more but moneywise, this would be DeLa Hoya/Mayweathers best bet if they want strictly money
Career wise: Cotto. People are saying Cotto might give Floyd a run for his money. I think Cotto won't stand a chance against mayweather. Cotto doesn't pocess the skills or the ring presence Mayweather does. I personally think Cotto won't even make to the final round. If mayweather just wants to add another name to the list then he'll face Cotto.
I think the fight will be much closer than the Hatton fight, even though ricky was able to take some pretty mean blows. It seemed to me that in the beginning of the fight Hatton fought his fight, up close using every part of his strong body to his advantage. Floyd had no answer in the beginning. If Cotto did fight Floyd the only way he would have a chance is if he stayed out of the middle of the ring and use the ropes to his advantage like Hatton did in the first 3 rounds. I didnt think Mayweather had knockout power anymore...but he proved me wrong by knocking out one of the strongest chins in boxing. The only problem Miguel Cotto has is that he gets so offensively minded that he will leave himself open for counter punches, and if he fights mayweather he will be fighting one of the best counter punchers ever. i think it would be a great fight. if cotto could fight his fight and land some crushing body shots and keep the fight in close quarters he will win in perhaps a desicion. but if he lets floyd get out and move around in the center of the ring it will be a long night for the puerto rican star. Before the Hatton fight i thought Mayweather was just a good fighter who just happened to be in his prime while all the former superstars got old and washed up. i didnt think mayweather fought anyone that posed a challenge. he fought a washed up arturo gatti. he fought a washed up Oscar De la Hoya, and even zab judah after he was in his prime. when he fought jose luis castillo he won on a decision that could have gone either way. so with him beating an established boxer like ricky hatton in his prime the way floyd did proves to me and many other people that he could be one of the greatest boxers ever. i personally would like to see him fight miguel cotto but i dont think it will happen. floyd is very happy with where he stands in boxing history and i dont think he wants to jeopordize that undefeated record by fighting a young hard puncher like miguel cotto. just retire floyd
Yeah, everybody has the same strategy, get inside and "bust Floyd up". Please, if it were that easy someone would have done it by now. Castillo, Baldomir, De La Hoya have gone in with the same stereotypical strategy, essentailly assuming the Mayweather is all flash and no substance; that he has no heart. "Yeah, that's it! Pressure him, smother him, rough him up!" What a joke.
What will be different with Miguel Cotto? Oh that's right, Cotto will pressure Floyd, smother him, rough him up.
People may not like Floyd Mayweather, although I suspect the arrogant, cocky act is a persona he adapts in order to hype fights; you guys keep buying into it, but he's probably going to keep on winning until he either fights one too many fights (still 2-3 years away) or he makes a mistake (complacency or poor conditioning).
I agree whole-heartedly with you that Miguel Cotto, while undoubtedly a very skilled boxer with a solid chin and superb conditioning, would still come up short against Floyd Mayweather for a number of reasons. Mayweather's speed, chin, and endurance are just that much better. he DID, walk down Ricky Hatton, one of the best conditioned fighters in the world last night and stopped him. Mayweathers performance last night has changed a massive number of minds in the boxing public and any doubt that he is the best pound for pound fighter has been put to bed. A De La Hoya/Cotto card would be just as exciting for boxing fans to see and would draw very bankable returns. I say De La Hoya/Cotto.
I think Cotto has a shot because him and Mayweather have the same idea of wearing their opponents down. Cotto has a lot more power than Floyd, but Floyd has more speed and defense. Cotto has pretty good defense himself, but lacks speed. If Cotto fights close to Mayweather, I think he could open up his defense and give him a taste of hell. Possibly even knocking him out...
Not very IMO. At least for me. Cotto has lost his two biggest fights and he Barely beat a Clottey who lacks a killer instinct. It's just difficult for me to see Cotto as an elite fighter anymore. BUT, If Mayweather vs Marquez can generate 1 mil. PPV buys then I don't see why this fight won't match that. This fight should have been made back in 07. I do consider it a lot more appealing than the Mosley vs Pac fight. Cotto looked decent against Foreman and he will surely dispose of Mayorga with ease. Those two fights are not good enough to guarantee Cotto a spot in the top 5 P4P rankings, but they are good enough to hype the fight with Mayweather. One thing is for sure though, Cotto has looked better than Mosley in his recent fights.
Honestly Floyd will pick cotto apart. Zab could have easily won that fight, but he has no discipline. FLoyd will exploit what zab saw more. Cotto stands no chance agains mayweather.Cotto is a pressure fighter and as you saw, The BEST PRESSURE FIGHTER IN THE WORLD, got knocked out. So what do you think would happen to cotto who has an open defense?
Paul Williams and Floyd would be a boring fight, but this time Paul Williams will defeat Floyd. PW has the tools needed to catch this master of elusiveness boxer called Floyd.
Paul would be able to catch up to him and tag him with massive power shots outnumbering Floyd 3 to 1.
I am not sure with Cotto or even Margarito can find Floyd and crack his elusive defense.
