you can not only have spinach.. u can have all green leafy vegetables... can have beat, carrots, tomatoes... all of dat..
and if u r complaint wid oral iron therapy... den take oral iron... e.g. salts of iron.. ferrous sulfate or ferrous gluconate... take one tablet two to three times a day... response to it will appear in 7-10 days... continue the therapy for 4-6wks... n then check if ur haemoglobin levels in blood have returned to normal... normal levels are.. for males- 13-16 g/dL.. n for females- 11.5-15 g/dL... if the levels have returned to normal, continue the therapy for another 6months to 1 yr. to replenish the stores of iron in ur body.. if this does not help, u will need parenteral iron therapy i.e. intravenous or intramuscular iron therapy... i guess all of this might just help u... i am a medical student... so have studied n told u... all d best..
Meat has iron in it. You can also take an iron supplement until your level of iron goes up. Your doctor needs to be monitoring your iron because you don't want to go to the other extreme. I have iron deficiency anemia and I take an iron supplement and I am working with my doctors to determine the cause from blood loss which I think has now been discovered (as of a few days ago from an endoscopy), polyps in my stomach that may have been bleeding. I may even have polyps in my colon but haven't had that investigated yet.
You can take vitamin C tablets + iron tablets from my doctor. I have suffered from it for years. Not to get personal, however if you have a heaver than normal period this can also account for low iron. Which is my cause. You might also ask your doctor about controling that as well. She put me on the pill to lessen my period and take Iron supplements + Vitamin C pill for absorption purposes. This has really helped me. Also check out the following link:
