Firpo was known as the Wild Bull of the Pampas and it's a fitting nickname and is famous for sending the great Dempsey through the ropes before losing by kayo in their famous fight. The Brown Bomber Joe Louis is one of the most complete fighters in boxing history with good boxing technique, a hard jab and potent devastating power in either hand. Firpo would rush across the ring and start throwing those wild punches but Louis would simply step inside and throw straight punches inflicting enormous damage to Firpo's face. Firpo would actually stagger Louis before running in to a beautiful Louis combo in round 3 and sending down the big Argentenian for the 10 count.
Firpo was big and strong, but he was more of a wild puncher than a boxer, whereas Louis, in terms of boxing technique, was almost perfect. Firpo, if he landed would probably be able to score a flash knock down as Louis' chin wasn't indestructible and Firpo did have that power. However he wouldn't have the boxing skills and the know-how to get inside Louis' defense, also Louis was very powerful and judging by the way Dempsey floored Firpo multiple times he wouldn't have stood up to Louis' punches very well.
