SMAC - Elastomeric Coatings for Aircraft Dampening
SMAC, located in the South of France, manufactures elastomer (rubber), composite and vibration isolation products and devices.
SMAC products for civil and military aeronautical applications include aircraft shock absorbers and rubber dampers, COTS and radar suspensions, insulation equipment and door sealing joints.
These products include SMACTANE®, a visco-elastic rubber for shock, vibration and noise control, SMAC CDS®, which is designed to provide strong damping for composite aircraft structures, and SMACSONIC®, for optimal aircraft noise insulation.
SMAC personnel are specialists in bonding elastomer to other materials, including steel, copper, bronze, aluminium, titanium, composite, polyamid, PTFE and glass. We develop our own compounds and finished products to verify compliance with customer specifications.
SMACTANE® SHOCK AND VIBRATION DAMPING MATERIAL
SMACTANE® is a visco-elastic material with high damping properties, and has been specially designed for shock and vibration damping applications. SMACTANE® material has been developed to maximise the damping properties in a wide range of temperatures and frequencies for aerospace and transportation applications.
SMACTANE®:
Can be used from temperatures of between -40°C and 120°C
Features shore A hardness from 40 to 80, and a rebound of 2% to 3%
Has a very high loss angle tangent
SMAC can design and manufacture rubber parts that incorporate SMACTANE®, starting from customer specifications and requirements. SMACTANE® can therefore be implemented in aircraft structures in the form of rubber to metal adhesions, composite parts, bellows, seals and laminates.
Furthermore, SMACTANE® can be delivered in rolls of 1mm thickness and 1,300mm length. SMAC can supply sheets of 500mm x 500mm, with various thickness.
SMACTANE® can also be integrated in the aircraft structure itself, e.g. between metallic plates or in composite (fibreglass or carbon) layers. This principle damps structural vibrations at the origin and provides an intrinsically damped structure.
SMAC CDS® is an innovative technology system, developed by SMAC, for damping composite structures by the insertion of SMACTANE® in the core of the structure.
SMACTANE® sheets are inserted in the structure during manufacturing like a composite ply. SMACTANE® withstands the curing process and bonds to the plies. Under the structure flexural modes, SMACTANE® is sheared between the composite plies and dissipates vibrating energy, then noise.
SMAC CDS® can be used as aircraft composite structures and as dampened aircraft interior structures.
SMAC CDS® is compatible with all composites structures, including glass, carbon, Kevlar®, honeycomb, etc.
SMACSONIC® - AIRCRAFT NOISE INSULATION COATING
SMACSONIC® is a visco-constrained coating recently developed by SMAC to reduce vibrations and noise from interior aircraft structures.
SMACSONIC® is composed of a 0.5mm-thick plate of aluminium attached to a 1mm-thick SMACTANE® material, which dampens flow noise and flexural body modes. SMACSONIC® can be used during aircraft design but also be implemented during completion, as a corrective action in retrofit.
SMACSONIC® plates are available in 540mm x 540mm sizes, and comply with FAR25-853A regulations.

Does this have anything to do with vibration on the structure ie wings etc!
