Well Vick is back in the NFL, and playing right in my back yard. I've written letters to encourage NFL officials to serve Michael Vick with a longer suspension, possibly for life for his crimes against animals.
His publicist is saying that he's done work with the Humane Society of the US. I was looking on their website today and could only find references to stories and press releases from when he was being investigated, tried, and sentenced. He is also mentioned in some stories about the grassroots movement that the Humane Society of the United States is working to start with former dog fighters to encourage young people to stay away from this "sport". More of a Michael Vick should be involved with this program than Michael Vick helped found this program or that he is a very active speaker for this program.
I saw that he was part of a panel on August 12th 2009 in Chicago to tell his story. I see that he had given a speech and his notes with his apology were auctioned to raise funds for the program.
There is also a video posted on their website with a Q&A session about Michael Vick. Basically, he needs to become a better person.
I cannot find anything that shows that the Humane Society of the US is behind him being reinstated to the NFL, I cannot see any other WORK listed on HSUS's website showcasing what he has done to clear his name and show that he truthfully regrets that he has done. PETA had said that during the height of this story that he had attended a seminar/lesson. There has been nothing on that front either.
Dog fighting isn't just about animals being killed. There is correlation between dog fighting with battery (on people), drug dealing, illegal gambling, gang violence, and other abuses to HUMANS.
I'm the kind of person that really wants to forgive someone, but come on... You've got to do something to prove you are sorry, right?
Update:I understand that according to the law, he is a free man. He's on the road to recovery.
My point is that Vick is supposed to be a role model for young people. His people want to make it seem like he's done so much to become a better person, when I can't find any evidence of it.
I did find another speaking engagement in Atlanta. So that's two public appearances and one seminar.
His road to recovery can't be over yet with so little accomplished, and I think he should be called out on that. I would like to see more from him, maybe because he is still on suspension, he can do some local community service at shelters?

Vick went to prison and served out the sentence handed down by our judicial system.
He's trying to become a productive member of society and is doing so under the guidance of Tony Dungy who is a pretty stand-up guy.
What exactly is it that you want from him?
i understand that he did his time and he is sorry for the things that he has done. i would also like to think that i am a person that forgives, but wow this one is so hard. when you do things accidentally is one thing but to do harm knowingly and continue to do now that's a tough one
