Okay, this may be a little TMI, so sorry about that. I got the paragard in March? I believe. I haven't had any problems with it, and every time I've checked for the string I've always been able to feel about 2 inches. I just checked after my last period and they were still fine.
On Tuesday night my boyfriend told me he couldn't feel them (why he was checking is beyond me).
I went to the doctor and she said that she can only find about 1/2 inch of string, so it's deff. shorter. She's scheduled an ultrasound to make sure it's still correctly in place. I'll find out on Tuesday morning for sure.
The thing that concerns me, is... If it's not still in place than according to my calculations I would ovulate this week. My last period was Oct. 11th-14th.
Has anyone else had issues with the paragard?
Update:My period was on the 11th-14th. We had sex the following week and this week (20th-23rd) before noticing on the 23rd that the strings were shorter.
After my bf said something to me I checked the strings (which I had just done the 14th) and they were a lot shorter.

I've had "issues" with the Paraguard... I got pregnant with my daughter while I had one. I had had mine for 5 years at the time. I promptly had it removed so as to not cause problems to my baby. She's a beautiful 20 month old now... I also have a 2 month old.
I also got a new Paraguard inserted last Tuesday. Yep, I'm trusting it again. My doc. says I have the same effectiveness rate once again, and I breastfeed, so it's still a great choice for us.
My original Paraguard was not out of place, nor were the strings "higher" or anything like you describe. I was just one of the lucky 1% that got pregnant while using one.
It's possible your boyfriend and/or anything else (tampons, etc.) inserted in your vagina pressed the IUD up. But if you just had a period, I'm almost positive you're not pregnant, if that's your concern. But I'm going to assume your doctor tested you, and that you aren't pregnant.
If you aren't pregnant, and your strings are just pushed up, then have your doctor cut them shorter so that they don't get pushed up again.
I'd definitely avoid sex this week. Even with backup protection, I wouldn't take the chance.
One other thing stands out in your story. You said your boyfriend couldn't feel the strings, your doctor could only feel 1/2 an inch... but what could you feel? Could you still feel the same amount as usual? Or much less? It's what it feels like to YOU, and if there's a change to YOU that counts...
Hope this helps~
I haven't had issues like that with it, but I've only had it for a year. The only complaint I've had is that after the string was clipped at the checkup, my period didn't start for another 6 months and when I did finally start, I think it moved a little. Ever since, when my husband and I have sex in a certain position, it pokes him! Never used to do that. Thanks for your story, I'm really going to be checking it a lot more often now!!!!
