Amm, hi there.
So, um, i'm 16 years old, i play pg for my HS basketball team and i have a problem.
You know, i've always had what a coach would call horrible shooting mechanics. My shooting form resembles Larry Bird's just with the slight difference that i'm left handed.
So, altough my coach asked me to try to change my mechanics, i can't do it, my shots fall short or something.
But that's not the biggest problem. You know, while shooting with my own mechanics, i can make about 60-70 shots out of 100 (i know, i still have a long way to go xP) but if i don't shot for 2 or 3 days, the next time i go to practice, i end up shooting horribly wild and short shots. I lack consistency, so, what should i do, or what could be a possible way to change this?
thank you, c ya
Ps. sorry if i have bad grammar, i live in Argentina and i'm not that good with english, so if something doesn't make sense, point it out an i'll try to fix it ;)

You should do something called form shooting, this is how you do that you go about 5 feet from the basket put the ball in one hand stand square to the basket (unlike Larry Bird) put your elbow under the ball and shoot 20 every time you go to play basketball and then move back a few feet then shoot ten more then put your other hand on the ball and shoot ten more and do that every time and stay consistent on that routine and always keep a 90 degree angle from your hand to your elbow to the shoulder and when you shoot you don't have to be perfectly square to the basket but not like Larry Bird.
I hope I helped! :)
Take a look at Ray Allen. Consistency and form is his key ahh ok well even look at guys like shawn marion who has crazy form yet made it all the way to the nba. Practice good form, dont just give up cuz u dont have the strength, practice and build muscle in the wrist area, ur only 15 ull have good form when ur older, which is really wat counts. the diff is, what really sucks about shawn marion is that if someone is gaurding him he doesnt have the advatage of lets say Drik Nowitzki has when Dirk shoots up high with his wrists it is harder for the defender to block that shot compared to marions "pass" shot which he shoot from his chest level.
If you believe you shoot like Bird did, you are using your non-shooting hand to propel the ball, which would be the reason your shot is so inconsistent. That is a common shooting problem. Try taping your off-hand thumb to the side of your hand. Work to release your off hand before the release of your shot.
It will take time and practice to get used to a purely one-handed shot, but it will be worth it.
