Phenomenal rifles. Incredibly accurate, and brutally strong. I have one in .22-250 that easily shoots .5MOA. I'll be adding a .308 barrel to it in the next couple months, to shoot MOA targets at 1000 yards. (1 MOA at 1000 is roughly a 12" target. No mean feat, hitting that.)
Well I have the pistol version, but actually they are essentially the same if you know TC.
I love it, but.....
There seems to be some variability in the quality control with TC. The .223 barrel is spot on accurate - maybe my most accurate gun. The 7mm-08 is crap with serious vertical stringing as the barrel heats up. (supposedly a sign of improper barrel tempering and something that others have reported as a potential problem with TC.) However there are other companies that make consistently excellent barrels for the Encore, like Bergara. I've already purchased a replacement from them.
The .223 produced a 2 inch group at 200 yd off a bench with a so so pistol scope. I was impressed.
Yeah it goes wherever i point it at up to 100 yards, i havent shot past further than this because i havent needed to, but im sure that it is more accurate than i am.
the main thing i like about this rifle is how lightweight it is, 6 lbs is pretty easy to carry around.
What caliber and version are you getting? stainless steel/synthetic or the wood stock?
What range do you expect to hunt at? Ive heard that getting a different barrel on these things will help out the accuracy alot but you could get something better for the price. For me, i havent had any problems though. If you want to change look at the Rem 700's (possibly used) 2" groups at 100 yards seems to be what the average encore factory rifle gets.
I have one, the best thing/gimmick is that you can change barrels..practically any caliber, shotgun, muzzleloader you want...you ARE paying for the name...the barrels are pricey, I have a Bergara barrel for the muzzleloading "part" of my gun...also a couple of other barrels that I haven't really tested yet....if you JUST want a muzzleloader there are many good options out there..I love my CVA optima, but since I have the updated Bergara brl. and others, I will probably let my CVA go...hope I don't regret it!
