Its a loser city. This is the same group of morons that cheer when players get hurt playing the Eagles. Phillies suck, 76ers are useless, Flyers were in last place, and they'll never win a Super Bowl there either.
Philly is a great sports city. The fact that the Phillies just lost their 10,000th game in front of a full-house who offered them a standing ovation at the end of the game goes to prove my point. Yes, the city is lacking in championships but that does not make it a lousy sports city.
The Phillies ownership sucks. They have a very talented, young team but will not break budget to supply a pitching staff. The Eagles have been serious contenders for the last 5 years or so and will be again this season. The Flyers suffered through what may have been their worst season ever and arguably made the biggest splash in the free agent market. They are another team that is a serious contender almost every year. The Sixers have more problems than maybe anyone in the league and don't look to be turning things around anytime soon.
Looking at the last 40-50 years or so, the Philly teams have had the following stars playing for them.
Phillies:
Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Robin Roberts, Richie Ashburn and Jim Bunning
Flyers:
Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, Bernie Parent
Sixers:
Allan Iverson, Charles Barkley, Julius Erving, Wilt Chamberlain
Eagles:
Tommy McDonald, Mike Ditka, Sonny Jurgensen, Jim Ringo, Ollie Matson, Bill Hewitt, Pete Pihos, Norm Van Brocklin, Chuck Bednarik, Steve Van Buren, Earl "Greasy" Neale, Alex Wojciechowicz, Bert Bell, Randall Cunningham, Reggie White, Jerome Brown
Despite the fact that they have not won many championships, this is a great sports town. Aside from the 4 major sports, we also have a very good minor league hockey team, indoor lacrosse and arena football teams. The surrounding areas also have quality minor league hockey and baseball teams. I am a Philly sports fan and wouldn't give that up for anything in the world.
NO!!!! dude I'm from DC so don't think I'm just a crazy guy from Philly trying to defend his home town because I'm not. Philadelphia is one of the most intense sports towns in the world. Even last season when the Flyers had the worst record in the league they still reliably sold more tickets than most other teams. and if you're attacking all Philadelphia sports teams you should go to an Eagles game and come back and tell me if you think the fans are intense or not.
I don't think it's a lousy sports city. The fans are very passionate ( sometimes too much?) about their teams. I wish I had some teams to root for. All I got are the LV 51's(AAA baseball) that play in the biggest dumphole in the PCL, and LV Wranglers ( minor league hockey).
Ok i'm gunna have to disagree with you, we're not rly a "lousy sports city".... yeahh ok maybe we don't win as much but we have great players & fans always support themm! so where are yew from?? mayb yewr the one in a lousy sports city?
Compared to what? Knowledgeable, intense fans. Love the set-up with the Wachovia, Spectrum, Linc, Citizen's Bank all in the same chunk of land.
If you mean lousy in terms of lack of championships, I don't really feel like that discussion right now but I will say this-the fans still come out-not many cities can say that.
they need to get some teams that win championships is all, as far as fans go they are ok.. hopefully the flyers will have a great playoff run this year with the additions of biron in net and briere on the foward line
C'mon anyone who cheers for the team with the most losses in MLB history day after day and year after year is truly a great fan of the team or a glutton for punishment. Phillies achieved their 10,000th loss in team history last night.

Yea we are such a lousy sports city. The guy who agreed with him is just as stupid. Nice explanation there to back it up.
