It will fit in your computer and it will connect to your motherboard. The only thing that I'm not sure about is if your power supply can give it enough power. The 9400GT only requires a 300W power supply, so if you have a pre-built computer, that's probably all they gave you. The 550 Ti requires a 400W power supply. The power supply isn't that hard to replace, but you will need to get one if yours isn't big enough.
It will be alot slower due to the fact that the processor well not keep up with the graphic adapter and also the pci express bridge may say times x16 more in reguards to the form factor not not the speed at which...This is a example of a x16 1.0 pci express slot that runs at x4...so the projected out put of that performance is 1/4 of a traditional x16 2.0 slot...Now a 550 on a x16 3.0 would still have something to gain but that is only the ability to increase the speed at which the pci express bus is set...though the gtx550ti is a 2.0..
Keep performance outlook in perspective.
Yeah all modern-day picture enjoying cards could be nicely matched which comprise your comp...all you prefer is a intense watt PSU sufficient to grant the mandatory means to the image card; a 450w or 500w PSU would be sufficient for it...
