To get it back to day 1 you will have to wipe it and put it back to factory settings. I have to do this regularly but it will wipe all your stored files from its memory and you will have to reset any home pages etc that weren't part of its original programme.
If you store ALL your files, including emails, on flash drivers or discs first then you can transfer them back when finished and you will also have to reconfigure your printer as it will be like having a new computer and your printer was an addition to it so will have to be reinstalled just like when you first bought and installed it.
If you wish to restore it to factory settings then you will need the disks that come with it. It is tricky if you've never done it before but this is how I was taught to do:
1) With the computer on put in the 'Product Recovery' disk.
2) Turn off the computer with the disk still in it.
3) Turn on the computer and tap the letter R repeatedly until a blue screen appears.
4) Leave for 30 minutes or until the disk has popped out by its self.
5) Reinstall all the other programme disks in any order and reconfigure you printer etc.
After wiping it should be as you first had it as its setting are as they were when new.
Restore your PC to a previous point won't make it like the day you bought it. Furthermore, PC need not 'restore to previous point' even after a long time.
Actually, you just need to run the 'disk defragmenter' and 'disk cleanup'. Your PC performance would improve very much if you haven't done it for a long time.
To do that click 'start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup and disk defragmenter'. It should take quite some time for the 'disk defragmenter' to finish.
Possibly you also need to clean up some registry keys.
nicely... homestead windows xp rapidly creates what's walled device restoration factors... meaning... any time you install drivers... etc... it makes a restoration factor for you any way... and in case you create one... you is only no longer waiting to get entry to it... because of the fact homestead windows will only over write it.

Windows autmatically keep creating restore points at
far intervals, say monthly, bi-monthly basis.
Some Hardware software also create a restore point when they r installed. Yah ! Like Printer Software, Scanner Software,
Camera, other hardware software/driver installers do create
a restore points, if they say "Creating restore point" during installtion.
So, Now the problem is date ! Thats also solved.
Goto >STart > Run > Type CMD and press enter
now you r in DOS Prompt
now type following commands one by one :
CD\ (press enter)
CD windows\system32 (press enter)
dir mspaint.exe (press enter)
now see the date displayed on left side of MSpaint.exe software. this is the date when your windows was installed.
Yah !
Now note down this date on paper.
Note down date before 1 month of above on paper.
Now type EXIT to exit from dos prompt and hit ENTEr key
now goto programs>accessories>system tools>system restore
and select "Restore to earlier time'
now you will see < button and > button on left & rite side of
current month. press left side arrow button to move earlier time. No, this is just for viewing.
Now browse to that month/date which you've noted on paper.

dates in BOLDed. click on them. and then click next and then
follow screen instructions to restore to DAY 1 of Windows.
