In my spanish class, I have to write something that is influencial or a big part or Puerto Rican society. Is gambling a big thing in Puerto Rico? If you know a website that I could check out, or if you just know your stuff, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks :)

There are casinos at many hotels, their main clients are turists staying at the hotels, and senior puertorricans who like to go there and play the coin machines.
Some puertorricans do like to buy Lotto tickets (we got a few electronic lotto games and one old style printed tickets "Lotería Tradicional"). We also play bets on horseraces and other sports events like boxing, rosters fights, etc. There is also an out-of-the law loto called "bolita" (little ball).
However I would not say that gamblig it is a big part of Puerto Rican society.
Nena is right, big things in PR include:
* Religion: Protestants are probably up to 40% of population, Catholics are the biggest religion in PR (although most catholics almost never go to church during the year, and hardly read or know about the Bible).
* Polithics: we love to argue about polithics (mostly local & PR / USA relationship), there is a sying here that "polithics is our 1st national sport".
* Familiy, extended family (not just parents and kids) but also grandfathers, in laws, cousins, etc.
* sports, mainly basketball, volleyball, baseball, and boxing.
Gambling? No, not really.
Big in our society:
Religion (mostly Catholic, some Christian)
Politics (very controversal here - Independence vs statehood is touchy subject)
Family
Culture (our culture is a unique mix from Taino's, Spanish and africans)
Celebrations (lots of festivals etc)
Oh yeh darth is right about Sports too!
yes we do.
in casinos, cock fights, horse tracks, car racing, lotto, some game called bolita (which is illegal lotto gambling).
