Um, isn't Tivo just a brand of DVR? I don't own a Tivo but I do own a DVR. It's fine... Tivo has some nice services (e.g. they'll record what they think you might like) but I didn't use it much when I had it. 8

My current series 2 TiVo is an 8. It works really well, but I have had to replace the hard drive once. I'm lusting after a new Series 3, that's a 10 in my book.

I have a DVR Toshiba 80 gig. It's awesome and holds tons of shows. But it isn't always user friendly when editing and often shifts when burning DVD's which drives me crazy. I spend time editing and then what I burned is not exactly what I edited and only burns on DVD-R discs. It plays back really well. I love it. I only watch commercial by choice now.
