There is no compatibility issues with amd, never has been. Core 2 is the fastest of the two, the amd would be more like trying to make a "budget" computer.
If you want to game, get either a core 2 duo or a latest AMD FX CPU. if you want the highest compatibility, go with the core 2 duo, but that might just be me. the FX is also kickass
