What is the difference between intro level and training level dressage tests? Lots of websites don’t acknowledge intro level tests, could it be a difference between dressage and eventing?
Intro levels are not necessarily recognized as an actual level of dressage by the United States Dressage Federation.
The USDF considers training level the lowest level.
Intro is basically the bottom of the bottom of the bottom, and is simply a prelude to training level that gets a rider and horse acclimatized to the show environment.
this is a great website; it just goes on and on....
All the levels including Intro now have 3 tests, and the third test of intro has canter. Intro is the only USDF level, the others are USEF until PSG which is FEI.
Intro Level - Walk/trot only. Typically for green horses and/or green riders. Most commonly seen at schooling dressage shows or schooling eventing shows, as it is not recognized by the USDF.
Training Level - Recognized by the USDF. Walk/Trot/Canter, the level before you get to first level. There are three training level tests before 1st level.

This is from Dressage Today Magazine about writing the new tests, and I found it very interesting about the new Intro, Training, and above tests. http://www.equisearch.com/horses_riding_training/e...

I have noticed that intro levels are only seen in local shows if at all. Training levels tend to be the lowest level in shows.
