I just bought my first pair of breeches. I'm 5'4" (don't have long legs) and 112 lbs, ususally a size 3 in jeans. So I bought a size 28, 26's were a little too small. Well, they fit fine on my calves and thinghs. But the crotch area is kind of baggy.? I don't know what other word to use. I also just realized they are winter breeches, which I had no idea of when purchasing them. It was my first time trying on breeches..And they're comfy and all but seriously...I live in southern California. So, what size will I need for my next pair? And, how should I expect them to fit? Thanks (:
Update:Hahaha they're TuffRider's. And knee patch low-rise. I have a bit of a bubble butt, too haha. Thanls for that!!

I had the same problem with those sizes. What brand are they? and what style? If they are low rise, That's your problem:) I have a bit of a bubble butt (not huge!;) and I'm not very leggy, 5'4'' and weigh 110 and these fit me great! So I'm guessing they'll fit you well to! They're cheap, but are great! just as nice as a $90.00 pair I bought, last a long time! Only problem is is that If you tuck in a flannel button up shirt it's kinds lumpy:/ but fine for normal riding shirts. Oh...and I got the beige and they're a little bit of an olive color;p

I have a bubble butt, wear a 4-6 in woman's which is much larger than what you are, and wear a 28 in tuff rider breeches. I think the general idea of breeches vs johds in the US is different than in England. Any breeches that I have are very form fitting. You need to measure your waist, that is the only way you are going to know which size will fit you. Tuff riders are very stretchy, and will accommodate a size up and down. My waist is closer to 30,but my 28's fit, and I can still squeeze in to my 26 tuff riders if nothing else is clean. I would go to a tack shop and try some other brands on to see what fits you best, it could just be the cut of the tuff riders.
Low risers all fit like that (in my experience) not very flattering! Also, there IS a difference between breeches and jodhpurs, as the other person mentioned. Jods are a lot more form fitting.
Next time I would try on a full seat jodhpur and see how you go.
They should be comfortable and able to give you plenty of room to move, but still be form fitting with no wrinkles or bagginess!!
Good luck. Try on LOTS of joddies and breeches before you buy.
Breeches are different to jodhpurs in that they are supposed to be baggy around the seat and thigh area! They were designed for the hunting field to allow for ease of movement. Now mostly used in show jumping and hunting.
As for size, it is difficult to say since I am from the UK. However,, it is always better to try on any kind of clothing or tack personally rather than order on line/catalogue since different makes/brands are cut slightly differently and of course there is no such thing as an average body shape or size!
