A gas was collected in a 2.0 L container over water at 40 degrees C (7.4kPa) and the pressure in the container was 105kPa. What would be the volume of the gas at STP?
What you've effectively got is 2 litres of gas at (105-7.4) kPa, at 40 deg C
that's 2 litres at 97.6 kPa at 313 K
STP is 100 kPa and 273 K
the higher pressure will lead to 97.6/100 times the volume.
the lower temperature will lead to 273/313 times the volume.
so multiply 2000 by those two factors, and you'll get the volume of gas for the answer.
about 1700 ml or 1,7 litres
