Say... Right now at 20, I'm near-sighted, so objects at a distance are a blur to me, as I age, objects nearer to me will then become blurry too. Wouldn't I actually be as good as blind? :(
Absolutely not as long as you wear glasses, contacts, or both.
Myopia has to do with the length of the eye from front to back and the projected image not being able to reach the back of the eye to be seen clearly. Put a lens in front of the eye to pull that image to the back and VOILA! YOU CAN SEE!
Presbyopia is the inability of the eye muscles to accommodate (or work together at a near point) and this usually happens with age (around 40 - but also at other ages too). Using that lens from above, add a bifocal to the lens (which actually decreases the power of the lens used to see far away) and VOILA! You can read or do anything at the near range without a problem.
Let's not be too dramatic here. Millions of people live with this type of eyesight and they are not BLIND!
