slow computer problem?
my latop takes ages to startup and shut down for some reason, i have already scanned for viruses, adware etc and there are none. The only reason i can think of is due to a firewall/virus scaner i installed(zonealarm), but i doubt it is that. are there any ways to speed the whole process up?

there are plenty of things beside adware and viruses that slow down ur pc. do the following:
1) degrag ur hard drive
2) run disk cleanup
3) go to run, type in msconfig. click on startup.
uncheck all except for ur virus protection (u can if u want)
#3 will be the most effective and will take the least time, however do all to increase performance. do 1 and 2 when u have a lot of free time
Go to Start >> Run. Type in msconfig and press enter/OK.
You'll see the System Configuration Utility.
Go to the Startup tab.
Click on Disable all. Make sure there are no check marks on each box.
Go to the Services tab.
Check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box.
Click on Disable all.
Click Apply and then OK.
It will ask you to reboot your laptop. Choose Restart.
Have you performed a disk cleanup on your machine? You need to clean out your temporary internet files, perform a disk defragmenter, uninstall any un-needed programs on your machine, and clear items from your start up and see if this helps.
