This economy mean's that there are far more people applying for job's then have jobs.

So you need to worry less about promotion, and more about just getting a job, show a great work ethic and effort.

And absolutely include your volunteer experience on your resume.

You can't really tell how well they promote until you work for them. Or if you see other people get promoted.

Rate of promotions, either depends on company/location growing, or people leaving.
