Do you agree or not? I am undecided at the moment. Being a girl myself wants me to say yes,but also say no because of all the emotional control issues some of us ladies can have.
I think a woman should be president, but Hillary Clinton is NOT IT. There are many woman who want to vote for Hillary simply because she is a woman without regard to whether or not she is the right candidate to be the first woman president. It will be a big responsibility to be the first woman president, and Hillary is not up to the task. She could set woman back. As a man, I could honestly say I would vote for Condi Rice if she ran for president.
This is a tough one...and I don't believe it should be glossed over with feminist rhetoric. I am a woman, and I have a hard time supporting a female candidate for the presidency of a major player on the world's stage.
You have already hit on the notion of emotions. This is a fact, whether women want to admit it or not. We have hormones that betray our reasoning skills. Not all, but certainly some women suffer tremendously at different times in their lives. (I think we've effectively proven that some women can act out of character and without rational thought with the intervention of hormone level changes ie. menopause, post partem depression.)
Another issue is clearly that one of mothering and child rearing. Hillary is certainly out of childbearing years...but what if a candidate was still of an age and still had a desire to have children?
I recognize that there have been many examples of very successful and strong female leaders in the world...but I believe these to be the exeption, rather than the rule. Sad, but true...
I think many men are equally as emotional to tell you the truth - just in a different way. Think men are more physically motivated when they are emotional and women tend to hold it in more. So I'm leary of that thought. Think its some old leftover belief, like women aren't smart enough for college, etc. Too emotional to vote, etc. Still even so, all are unique so there can be no 100% of anything even if it were true.
Best to look at the individual's particular history and then judge based on that alone. Woman prez? yes, I agree
A woman can be president but she has to be a strong willed woman and not a panderer. Women can be leaders such as Queens Elizabeth, Victoria, Katherine the Great, PM Thatcher, etc... But she must be strong willed and dare I say, a bit of a witch. Such as the queen's rule put down by Elizabeth if I am not mistaken where she said that none of her dogs will wear any other collar than hers. That is why no British citizen can be knighted by another countries monarch.
A strong woman can do it, a panderer and flip flopper will have a really hard time.
Especially Hillary. She seems very unstable and undecided to me.
I feel she can help on some issues but many I do not, like war and immigration. I think she might have good ideas with the debt and healthcare but that won't keep our country free and safe.
I also feel that when it came down to it her administration and people in her party would have to step up a lot to compensate for her weak areas. Which tells me NO we are not ready.
I don't see any reason why a well-qualified woman could not become president. "Emotional control issues" are irrelevant. Seasoned professionals can deal with these issues with no problems, and are well able make decisions without letting their judgement be clouded.
Well, if you think that you have emotional control issues from time to time, check out the emotional control issues that our country's leading female politician has. The woman is driven by hate and rage and will be quite a spectacle to watch once she resumes her rightful place on the throne. I speak, of course, of Queen Hillary the Great.
Women have been great leaders: Margaret Thatcher, Ghandi, Joan of Arc. Being emotional is not a bad thing. Women are much better at showing compassion and making rational decisions. One could make a great U.S. president. Perhaps Jenna Bush?

I'm not against having a woman President. I'm just not going to vote for Hillary. The fact she's a woman has nothing to do with my rejecting her.
