I'm making a video in adobe premiere and when i preview my footage in the project panel the clip looks good but when I drag and drop it onto the timeline and play it - it is slicing the edges off the clip and so im missing bits of peoples faces! Why is it doing this and how do i fix it so that it shows the clip normally?

What file format are the clips? Could be its some oddball format either Premiere or your computers codec can't handle. Try rendering the project and see if it looks ok. If so then its just the video codec showing you crappy images but the file is fine. If the render looks bad try re-rendering the files to AVI using Media Encoder.
If you do your research you will find that Disney, Hollywood and Sony movie studios don't use Apple or Microsoft operating systems or software, they use Linux. They have done for the passed 12 years because it is faster, stable and secure, You will also find that BBC TV studios use Linux operating system. (they develop and support Linux)
