They all must use different types of cameras. I noticed when I was flipping through the channels that "As the World Turns" has such different lighting effects than "One Life to Live." It's crazy! In my opinion, B&B, Y&R, and ATWT all have similar shooting styles and cameras--there isn't much of a contrast among those soaps.
Guiding Light is using handheld camcorders and actually films outside/not in a studio.
They used to when I was in school and had seldom time to watch them: new characters had come aboard, old characters had went or been replaced marriages had been broken up, new couples, and their children had either been replaced or SORAed.

I assume the network has certain cameras, etc.
Almost all the soaps now are doing more outdoor scenes and they use a different lens for these shots.
Guiding Light is using Hand held camera, filming on location/real blds and use studio sets very little.
AMC was using handheld camera but I think they now use both handheld and regular tv cameras
