i own 3 cars at the moment and one of them is parked on my newly bought property in oakville ontario on my lawn. the other day some by-law guy came to my house and told me that i have 30 days to remove MY car off of MY property because apparently there is a by-law saying that one cannot park on grass. is there anything i can do to fight this? i have just moved out of a really bad neighborhood with unbearably nosy neighbors and now this guy tells me that he came because received a complaint.

In my area there is is a city ordinance that forbids parking a car in your yard. He/she is not nosy just trying to protect their property values. Did you not read your bylaws BEFORE buying in that community?
It depends where you moved. If the city has an ordinance that says no cars on the lawn, it doesn't matter that's your car or your lawn. It's still illegal to park there.
If you moved into an HOA community, you are doubly screwed, because the HOA makes the rules that every homeowner in the community must live by -- by moving there, you automatically agree to the rules. And they can basically make any rule they want, "in order to protect $$ property values", like you can only paint your house X color or put your trash out at a certain time.
I rent in an HOA in AZ, and in summer the sun doesn't go down until sometimes 8-9 pm. Last summer I was working 7p-7a, and when I put my trash out before I went to work, I got fined -- until I told them that the trucks came to pick up trash before I got home in the morning AND that I worked a shift that didn't allow me to follow the rules -- they actually called my boss! But I had to physically PROVE to them why I should be able to put my trash out before sundown!!! What balls! I will NEVER buy in an HOA, for ANY reason.
When it's my property, what I say goes... not anyone else.
Unfortuneately, if you bought in an HOA, THEY make the rules, and you are stuck, even though it IS your property.
Sorry no loopholes. No parking on your lawn means no parking. Widen your driveway to allow another car.
