I had the same assignment for a western religions class last year. I wrote about abortion and how it is viewed from the three Abrahamic religions. Here are some other examples from my class:
Alimony
Divorce
Euthanasia
Homosexuality
Mental Health Treatment
Polygamy
Stem Cell Research
Suicide
Here are some resources that I used for the research into the Jewish and Muslim viewpoints.
The Oxford Dictionary of World Religions
Bowker, John
New York: Oxford University Press, 1997.
Encyclopedia of Islam in the United States
Cesari, Jocelyne
Connecticut: Greenwood Press, 2007
The Oxford Dictionary of the Jewish Religion
Werblowsky, R.J. Zwi, Wigoder, Geoffrey
New York: Oxford University Press, 1997.
Hope this helps!
Try using an encyclopedia to understand the word homophobia and go to your nearest public library and talk to the librarian for the meaning of Social Justice. Good luck.
From an activism point of view, social justice usually encompasses the following types of things:
Treatment of the poor, or those in unfortunate situations even if they "deserve it."
Treatment of people of third-world countries.
Treatment of people of minority groups.
(These include acts by people, groups, and organizations.)
It can also encompass:
War
The environment
Global health (for example, the HIV epidemic in Africa)
Economic class inequalities (specifically, when imposed or extorted)
Homophobia or even Gay Marriage would be good examples.
