I have a Compaq Presario SR1520NX model. It had a virus or something a few days ago, so I reformatted the hard drive. It worked at first, but then after using it awhile it decided to crash. After it crashed, it would get to the Windows XP screen and then crash again without going to the desktop. I reformatted it again. Again, it worked fine for awhile.. I brought up a photo and left the computer again... When I came back, it had crashed and would not complete startup again. I'm hoping this is a software problem. PLEASE HELP ME! Thank you.

Drop your xp cd into the cd drive. Restart the computer, boot to the cd. Choose the Repair option, Repair Console. You'll need your admin password. type chkdsk /f. I suspect that you will find errors in the report.
Good Luck
It could be due to a hardware device connected to your computer. Most probably a USB device connected to it. Remove some of them and check it out or it can be also, due to heat. Check the fan, Sempron usually gets really hot and provide a place with good ventilation. When starting-up, try selecting the option "last known good configuration".
At this element, i'd in basic terms fix it from the disks b/c if chkdsk is operating then there is something corrupted interior the abode windows listing. inspite of the undeniable fact that, once you've mananged to regain administration of your keyboard, pass less than initiate, seek for cmd, or maybe as in cmd style (with out rates) "chkdsk /f". this can experiment your hdd for corruption and fix it. also, acquire CCleaner and be conscious if it may't fix you regestry as which may be the challenge to boot. If all else fails then do a fix. good success!
