I am looking for some recipes for treats for my horse. Anyone know of any good ones? I also saw something about pepermint taffy like thing on here and now the question is gone? Anyone get that recipe? Thanks!
I have the recipe, exactly out of a horse recipe book. The description she gave in the question posted about this wasn't very descriptive. Here is how I make it for my horses.
What you need:
-Sturdy Pie Pan (or similar pan)
-20 or so crushed peppermints (should be powder)
-2 TBLS Flour
-4 TBLS Sugar
-4 TBLS Brown Sugar
-1/2 cup Oatmeal
-1 TBLS Vegetable Oil
Add milk and/or water as needed.
Should make a thick, sticky, taffy like substance.
Directions:
Mix up ingredients in a large bowl.
Pour into heavily greased pie pan.
Cook at 350 degrees for 15 minutes, then check. It should be harder and stiffer, but still taffy like.
Let sit for 10 minutes or until hardened.
Put into a bowl/pan that is safe for your horses to eat out of and let them enjoy!
*Note: It is meant to be licked, not chewed and swallowed.
Sorry, I don't have that recipe but i have others.

I am not sure if this is the same recipe but I give it to my horses;
Use quaker oats and melted peppermints. Use Cookie Cutters to make the shape DO NOT COOK quaker oats, but melt the peppermints (the red and white peppermint circles). Pour quaker oats into the cookie cutters and then pour the melted peppermint over the quaker oats. Let stand until set! Walla...your ready to treat your little baby. Tehe
Its so much cheaper and better for the horse just to buy recomended treats. Plus, the makers go through tons of paper work to make sure all the ingredients are safe. Nicker Maker is a good one. Or just plain old carrots, my horses never refused them! Hope I helped!
Take a handful of crushed ice and one banana. Put it in a food processor/blender and blend. Cut up and apple and mix w/banana. Put into paper cup(s) and freeze. Feed by squeezing it out of the cup. If desired, sprinkle cinnamon on top. The horses love it!

2 Cups Dry Oatmeal
3/4 Cup Grain

get completely hard, but they store nicely.

Electrolyte Cookies
2 cups oats (I use crimped oats or barley/mix)
3/4 cup grain (I use either LMF or barley)
3 cups bran
1 cup molasses
1 cup water (may vary depending upon altitude)
12-24 1-oz. scoops of powdered electrolytes (depends how strong you want
them) Mix all the ingredients together. You should have a consistency a little
thinner than play-doh. If it isn`t wet or sticky enough, add a little
more water or molasses. Place large spoonfuls on a (greased) cookie sheet.
Bake at 325 for 30-40 minutes. These have a tendancy to burn so keep an eye
on them.

oh here i came up with that, and they deleted it because it wasn't really a question.
take about 20 peppermints and crush them
add a couple Tbspoons flour
add about 3 Tbs sugar
2 tbs brown sugar
1/4 cup oatmeal oats
a squirt of oil
a bit of milk
add water if needed.
I didn't measure stuff out the first time, so these are estimates, so feel free to take out or add more of whatever.
Put in a heavily greased pie tin, and cook on 350 for about 15 min, it should be sort of liquidy and bubbling.
let harden and cool
