Is the DS second hand? If it is, the battery might be worn out from being charged up so many times. Take it into your local gaming store and see if they can sort you out with a new battery.
The battery's probably about to go. If it's from a pawn shop that means it's used right? Well, the DS battery can only take 500 charges before it loses its normal battery life. So, I suggest you buy a new one. You can get one for $20 ($15 for the battery, $5 for shipping) from Nintendo. Here's a link. Just choose whichever DS you have. Then click on the Parts & Accessories tab. Then click battery. Hope this helps.

If it is from a pawn shop the battery is most likely worn out so i suggest you simply get a new battery and it should work fine if not take it to an electronic store and have them sort it out good luck =]
when batteries are constantly charged and recharged, the life of the battery gets shorter n shorter. it happened with my psp. and since u said it was from a pawn shop its prolly pretty old. try finding a new battery online or somthin.
there is an orange gentle that comes on whilst the ds is charging. the ds will promptly supply up charging as quickly as that's finished and the orange gentle will flow off, so merely value it till that little orange turns off via itself.
