I'm in graphic design class working on a project and I'm exporting/saving as a regular image type. Some of my layer effects disappear, namely my bevel and emboss, but not my drop shadow. It isn't a zoom issue as I ran a test print and it was missing the bevel and emboss as displayed on the computer.
Can anyone help?

Define "regular image type." If you want all the effects to be saved and be editable later on, it has to be a PSD file (possibly PDF as well, but haven't tested it).
If you still have a problem after saving as PSD, you can work around the problem by embedding the effects into the layer. One quick way I personally use is to convert the layer to a Smart Object by right clicking the layer, and then right clicking it again to rasterize it.
I'm not sure your question is very clear. What does Zoom have to do with any of it? Do the effects literally disappear from Photoshop or they just don't print?
3. You can make you re own background by creating a new layer and putting it at the bottom. than designing it. make sure that when you draw you re drawing on a layer above it. If you do so whatever you draw should be over the background you have created.
