The engine is certainly more reliable than the god-awful HT engines Cadillac used in the 80's and early 90's. But repair costs on the Northstar tend to be high because of the packaging of the engine. For example you need to partially disassemble the engine to change out a starter.

if the head gaskets go its toast the engine will have to be replaced a common problem with these engines
