OK, I currently have a box I built myself...
Intel Q9650
4Gb DDR2 800
I do mostly graphics, video editing and coding/decoding, and sound recording/editing. The current configuration is hardly a turkey, but...
So, do I wait for the next generation of Intels...Sandy Bridge and beyond, or do I get an i7-870 or an i7-950. Note...I am not dropping $1K for a 980X or $850 for a 970.
...and please don't say the AMD 1090T or 1100T BE...as the Q9650 outscores them in benchies.
Thoughts?
Update:@Katsuhiro: Yamero! Chiisai chinchin! I specifically said NO AMD!
...and, BTW, here is the debunk of what you just posted...

AMD is cheapier than Intel, and the new Phenom II X6 have better performance than the highest Intel Core I7, i am a experienced computer technician and i tested it.
By the way i recommend you to move to AMD, is better and more stable, and the best thing is that you don't have to pay a lot of money for it
trust me
nicely the 9650 in passmark rankings ranks #fifty two ...the 1090T ranks #15 the 980X of direction ranks #a million So sure the two of the two are somewhat extra ideal on your CPU....that suggested...you may desire to get a thoroughly new mom board for the two of those CPUs...new RAM..etc. in essences...a thoroughly new device. in case you're turning out to be all you like now with what you have...i do no longer see spending huge greenbacks to benefit some extra nanoseconds. You precise with regard to the regulation of diminishing returns...actual a 980X could provide you a benefit..yet how lots actual international benefit in assessment to cost? most of the people who say i want the 980X have not any concept a thank you to apply it...they only want bragging rights! i could carry off somewhat longer. i want extra constructive video...i'm sitting on my palms precise now till ultimately the hot PCIe x16 version 3.0 standards comes out in the mother board and video card! Dubbling the band with could honestly have an excellent benefit in video card overall performance!
