Can Websites track your IP address?
im so scared. i accidentally typed in that im smoking on a website that had a chat room. then the chat room told me that my IP address is being tracked and logged. (BTW, this website was not professional.. it was a family guy episode website with a built in chat room) Am i gonna be in serious trouble and are the cops going to find out? Please help me

People cant. Websites cant. Only websites log it by law. And used for various reasons.
You cant be tracked by IP adresses. At the best, a REAL computer whiz can get some information like a phone number etc. The IP adress doesnt not contain your home adress or number or cell etc. It just says who you buy internet from (cox, comcast etc) and the city where the server is that gives you acess to the web.
Also, no Police Department would waste time and resources tracking someone on the internet for saying they smoke. And, its illegal. So much red tape to do it. They can barley do it to PEDOPHILES.
By law all sites must keep track of your IP adress. So the chat was jsut stating that it logged you. Your IP has been logged by Yahoo, Google, PornHub, Animal Sex, whatever the hell you go to etc. All logged.
